It’s On! The Flowers of War to beat other 60+ movies

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has published a press release confirming the accepted entries for the Foreign Language Film category for the 2012 ceremony, and guess what!? The Flowers of War (China) -starring Academy award winner Christian Bale- is in.

It’s an insane list of 63 movies from all over the world and I’m really hoping that The Flowers of War gets a fair chance!

Next date to keep track; 24th of January of 2012 when the nominations will be announced followed by the ceremony presented on the 26th of February of 2012.

Let’s get stranded in a Concrete Island

Filmax International, the Spanish production company behind The Machinist (2004), has posted on its official website a teaser poster for Concrete Island; a project that has been mentioned by Brad Anderson earlier this year as something that will bring him, writer Scott Kosar and Oscar winner actor Christian Bale together again.

I’m very skeptic about rumors, but when the production company publish a poster with Bale’s name on it, I better start believing!

Here’s what the poster reads:

Filmax Entertainment presents a Julio Fernández production for Castelao Pictures.
Academy Award Winner Christian Bale
Concrete Island
Directed by Brad Anderson
Screenplay by Scott Kosar
Based on the Best-selling novel by J.G. Ballard
“The talented cast and crew of The Machinist reunited at Concrete Island”

The website also has a short synopsis of the project and here’s a couple of things I found interesting from it:

  • The movie will be set in the future 2020 in Los Angeles; the original book is set in the 70s in London. I did not expect it to be a movie set in the past, and choosing the future as timeframe gives me hopes that Kosar is preserving the bizarre essence of the book, the absurdity of the trap and the opposing forces against Robert Maitland (the protagonist) struggle to escape.
  • They kept in the summary the “agonising physical pain and the mental turmoil” part; all I can say is OH NOES!!! I just don’t want to see Christian go through another physical transformation :( not that I haven’t enjoyed his immersion in his characters, I’m just concerned about his overall health!

I think this is a very interesting project; a movie that I would definitely see even if Christian wasn’t attached to it (but obviously that seeing his name in the poster makes me smile with anticipation :D ). I also appreciate the loyalty from Christian and all the people involved to get back together and develop another project; it just confirms that The Machinist was a great experience for them over all the issues that they might have faced (the lack of fundings, filming in a different location, Christian physical transformation, etc.)

Let me know what do you think about this project in the comments below, Have you read the book? How do you feel about The Machinist team back together?

Welcome!

After long struggling with myself to get this site up, I’m finally able to write the “Welcome” post.
I’ll start by saying I’m happy and excited to start this humble tribute to my latest obsession, and one of the most amazing actors I’ve come to follow; Christian Bale.

Let me be honest here; I hate doing the same thing everyone else does and that’s part of the internal struggle I faced before I finally decided to open this site… I know I’m not a great source of news because of my geographical location; I’m far away from where Christian is. It’s pointless for me to follow the traditional fansite structure; I’m not going to create a video/photo gallery because there are already great sites with that kind of media.

So, What will you find on this site?
Well, you’re gonna find just my personal approach to everything Christian. I just don’t want to copy and paste the information you already find online; I’m gonna add my personal touch to everything that goes here. I’m a very opinionated person so you’ll basically see my comments and points of view everywhere (hence why i chose to do a blog-kind-of-site and not a content-management-kind-of-site).

I’ve started by adding a short and sweet page with a few facts about Christian and we’ll see what grows from there.

The site theme reflects my one of my fave movies; 3:10 to Yuma, and by the way, this is going to be the first movie I’ll be adding more content pretty soon :)
